A global consumer goods group needed consistent master data and comparable reporting across more than 20 countries. Ixia built the governance model, automated the rule engines behind it, and rolled out the Power BI reporting that became the regional standard.
Challenge
- Every country carried its own master data conventions, so regional numbers could not be compared, let alone trusted.
- Previous governance attempts had produced documents. The business needed controls that ran.

Engineering approach
- Business glossary embedded in the tools people already used, not published as a PDF.
- Rule frameworks tied directly to data quality checks, so a definition and its enforcement were the same artefact.
- Automated exception detection and scoring feeding stewardship queues.
- Dashboards wired to the governed data, so adoption of the reports drove adoption of the standards.
What made it difficult
- Twenty country organisations, each with a working local system and no local reason to change it.
- Governance had to survive contact with day-to-day operations, or it would join the previous attempts on the shelf.
- Rules had to keep pace with a live business: a static rulebook would have been out of date at publication.
Outcome
- The Power BI environment became the standard for performance tracking across the region.
- Data quality logic embedded into governance council workflows, meeting, deciding and acting on live exceptions.
- Master data definitions aligned across 40+ domains and 20+ countries.
